The Austrotherm UNIPLATTE 4 mm is a construction board with a pink XPS core, coated on both sides with mortar and reinforced with fiberglass mesh. At this thickness, it primarily serves as a leveling board: for example, when a bathroom that is only partially tiled needs to be retiled to the ceiling without removing the old tiles. One board covers 0.78 m².
The panel is aimed at tilers and renovators who want to redesign existing bathrooms without demolition work; further Austrotherm products can be found at Austrotherm at Keuck .
According to the manufacturer, the following applies to use and processing:
Instead of removing old tiles with all the noise and debris, you can level out the height difference with the thin panel and create a uniform surface for the new flooring. Its light weight and dust-free cutting make the job easier in occupied buildings.
The thickness depends on the existing structure that the plate is intended to compensate for.
According to Austrotherm, old tiles are often 4–6 mm thick; therefore, measure the existing surface before ordering.
If the old tiles were laid in the mortar bed that was common in the past, the manufacturer recommends UNIPLATTE 1300 × 600 × 10 mm as the suitable thickness.
According to the manufacturer, the UNIPLATTE, when used in a tested system with sealed butt joints, is designed for water exposure classes up to W2-I; the pink edge of the panel must then no longer be visible. The maximum application temperature is 70 °C.
The XPS core specifications are taken from the Austrotherm product data sheet; basis weight and processing instructions are taken from the manufacturer's documentation.
